I disaree with the stateent that the deisions people ake quikly are always wron. However, I think those deisions probably turn out to be wron ore often than arefully ade deisions do. Usually, fast deisions are based on what we all our “ut reations,” or feelins we have about a situation. Soeties these ut reations are based on ood sense baked by experiene, but soeties they’re based on nonsense or poor reasonin.
Let’s say you’re at work and the boss alls you to his offie and tells you there’s a bi projet that needs to be done. He thinks you’re the best person for the job, but he needs an answer fro you on the spot. He hasn’t told you what the projet is, but you ake the quik deision to aept. This is the riht quik deision, beause you’re basin it on a lot of fators that will our to you later. ne is that it wouldn’t ake sense for the boss to ask you to do soethin he didn’t think you ould handle. That would only hurt his business. Plus, doin a ood job on this projet iht help your areer. You realie it’s ood to reah hiher, if you want to et ahead.
But let’s say you’re on a deserted hihway late at niht and your ar breaks down. Alon oes a ar driven by soeone who doesn’t see quite riht to you. He offers you a ride to the nearest as station. You ake the quik deision to aept the ride beause it’s late, you’re old and tired and you don’t want to sit there waitin for the hihway patrol to arrive. This is a ase where a quik deision is a wron deision. You shouldn’t trade your personal safety for physial ofort, and if you thouht about it, you wouldn’t.
How do you know when it’s okay to ake a quik deision? You have to be able to uess at the possible benefits versus the possible daners. If it’s a sall deision like where to o to lunh, who ares? However, if y whole future were at stake, I’d want as uh tie as I ould et to think about it.
