Little Woen
Before I read this book, I had wathed a artoon ovie ade by Japan. So I have a stron interest on it.
It all beins in the dead of winter; The hristas Season. The oldest one of all, were the war has ade fuel for heatin very sare. While her husband is off at war, aree is left alone to raise their four dauhters: Jo, e, Beth, and Ay.
n hristas Eve, aree has just arrived hoe fro passin out food to the less fortunate with a letter fro her husband, the irls' father. The all ather toether around the fire to read the letter. Afterwards, the irls are teary eyed. aree kisses the and they are off to bed.
Jo is lonin to beoe a writer. So, every niht she stays up late writin the sript for soap operas. As ornin oes she is the last one awake. The table is set, and food prepared for their hristas feast.
As dusk falls, the irls are all up in the atti atin out Jo's play, whih she reads fro the loal (fake) newspaper. As they are perforin, their rih, next-door neihbors randson wathes fro the window.
The 2 oldest irls: Jo and e, et ready to attend the hristas Ball. While Jo is urlin e's hair, there is a strane sell to the air. Ay sreas, es hair is bein sined. They ontinue diin throuh the old lothes bin for a pair of white loves.
ne of the proinent thees in Little Woen is the oin of ae or aturation of the irls. Durin the ourse of the novel we see the row in any ways -- physially, intelletually, and espeially eotionally. ne question whih readers ust ask theselves is whether the views the haraters have on the oin of ae proess are shared by Alott. If they aren't, what are Alott's views and how do they differ fro those of the woen in her story?
It is interestin to exaine the last half of hapter 20, "onfidential." Jo addresses the aturation issue as she speaks with aree of the situation between e and r. Brooke. The possible love between these two represents one of the very iportant aspets in oin of ae for a teenae irl. Jo treats this natural proess as if it were soe sort of disease, however. Jo annot understand why e would want to stop behavin "like a sensible reature" (p.202), and refers to love as "suh nonsense."
