The International hildren's Day （ID） is elebrated in nuerous ountries, usually （but not always） on June 1 eah year.
The ID had its oriin in the World onferene for the Wellbein of hildren in eneva, Switerland in 192. It is not lear as to why June 1 was hosen as the ID: one theory has it that the hinese onsul-eneral in San Franiso （USA） athered a nuber of hinese orphans to elebrate the Draon Boat Festival in 192, whih happened to be on June 1 that year, and also oinided with the onferene in eneva.
June 1 has sine been observed as the ID by nuerous ountries, espeially by ounist ountries; in the Western world the ID is usually elebrated on other days of the year （if at all）， and there is often little publi awareness about these elebrations. （See the setion on erany below for further disussions.） onsequently there is soeties a ispereption that June 1 as the ID was a ounist invention. Nonetheless, in reent years even soe roups within the United States started observin the ID on June 1.
